About the artist
Hi there! My name is Tijs, I am the artist behind Studio Windii.
I was born and raised in a small city in The Netherlands, called Helmond. I grew up in a calm neighborhood surrounded by nature and spent a lot of time with my family exploring the local forests around us. Once we started traveling, that’s when my interests and love for nature grew even bigger. Seeing the Alps for the first time blew me away and threw me down a path where nature would influence almost every interest and art piece I did.
My background in art comes from my father who was an airbrush artist and my mother who painted leisurely. Creating and tinkering with things played a huge role in our household, we were encouraged to find our way through art. When my dad was diagnosed with cancer, he took his art more seriously, pursued it as a career, and did what he loved until he passed at age 47. He was a talented artist who was held back from the most common inhibitor in this field which was imposter syndrome affecting his belief in the quality of his art. He is my biggest inspiration for why I create art personally and professionally, and I try to carry his spirit with me through what I do.
I have always been drawn to pencils, fine liners and creating thin precise lines to create form and express my ideas. It took many years of learning and fine tuning to reach a point in my art journey where I could be satisfied with the result. My dad taught me the basics of Adobe Photoshop and I soon began painting digitally. It has become my go to workflow to use digital media to paint because of the degree of control it gives. My primary drawing tool is a 13-inch iPad Pro and ProCreate but I am slowly moving towards working in the daunting world of traditional colored media.
When I was 21 years old, I was introduced to the world of climbing and immediately fell in love with the sport and the community that binds it all together. Like a lot of new boulderers, I was obsessed! Climbing six days a week, growing in my skills and drinking wayyy too much coffee at the gym bar. It did not take long before we took our adventures outside, bouldering and later lead climbing in different places in Europe. Throughout my studies, I worked in a bouldering gym for 4 years, getting deeply acquainted with the community and falling even more in love. Climbing along with nature plays huge parts in my life and my art, and I look forward to creating, collaborating, and growing as an artist.
Much love,
Tijs Wind
